Smart Forests Research film – Cambridge University

The Smart Forests project film is a visual exploration of the increasing digitalization of forest environments, capturing how emerging technologies shape forest monitoring and governance worldwide.

Developed as part of the ERC-funded Smart Forests project, Cambridge University (Sociology Department) the film documents ongoing research from 2020 onwards, focusing on four in-depth case studies in Chile, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and India. Each segment introduces a local case study, co-created through field schools and workshops with communities directly impacted by these digital transformations.

Created by MIND THE FILM in collaboration with on-site filmmakers, field school participants, and the Smart Forests research group, this documentary sheds light on how digital forest technologies can both enable and constrain forest-dependent communities.
